The Red Sea is Europe's closest tropical sea and is know as an excellent dive
destination. It is an extraordinary area of
outstanding natural beauty and an ideal place
for a scuba diving holiday. Thousands of kilometres
of coastline are blessed with extensive reef
formations and islands. Their underwater scenery
is rich with coral-covered walls and beautiful
"gardens"; perfect for your diving
holiday.
Over 400 varieties of coral and 1500 species
of fish, turtle and shark make the Red Sea their
home. The Red Sea stretches from the Gulf of
Suez in the north to the strait of Bab el Mandab,
the "Gate of Tears" in the south,
to a length of 2500 km and an average width
of 280 km. The average depth of the sea is 900
meters, although the deepest area, off the coast
of Port Sudan, is more than 2700 meters deep.
Because of the almost total separation from
the Indian Ocean, unique lifeforms evolved and
created one of the best all year round diving
destinations on earth, with water temperatures
ranging from 21 degrees in winter to 29 degrees
in summer.
