A word about El Quseir |
Known historically as one of the major ports on the Red Sea coast, Quseir was once the launching point for Queen Hatshepsut's expedition to the land of Punt. Quseir was also a major point for pilgrims leaving for Mecca, as well as a significant trade route for spices from India to Britain. The ancient port is still remaining north of town.
El Quseir has a long history as one of
the major ports of the Red Sea. It was once a thriving
center of trade and export in Egypt and a major exit
point for pilgrims to Mecca. It was fought over by the
French and English as an important trade link with India
but the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 has led to
it decline. However, today Quseir is no less intersting
and a charming town to visit. There is a nice bazaar
teeming with goods made and sold by the friendly locals
, many historical sites of interest, sandy beaches,
clear waters and beautiful coral reefs
